Choosing the Right Herbs For Your Tea Herb Garden

Drinking herbal tea is a great way to feel refreshed, relaxed or invigorated. The feeling you are looking for can be accomplished by making the right teas. Some teas are even used to aid in digestion or settle upset stomachs.  A tea herb garden allows you to enjoy the benefits of drinking herbal teas anytime. Plant the herbs you will use the most in your teas. Some teas will do better in pots than in the ground. Make sure you are planting the herbs you will be able to grow in your climate and soil conditions.

Some herbs have to be contained in order to keep them from overtaking a garden. Lavender and mint are two herbs well known to take over in tea herb gardening. For this reason, you want to keep them separated from the rest of the garden. Dividers will do nicely, but planting in a pot is recommended. This is a much better way of making sure the rest of your garden is safe. Another tip is to keep invasive plants downwind from the rest of the garden. This prevents seeds from being spread to other parts of your garden. Lavender has been known to grow yards away from the rest of the garden.

Pots are a great way to keep many plants sensitive to frost from being dying. If cold snaps occur, you can simply move the plants indoors. This allows them to thrive for a much longer period of time. Previously, many people in cold regions simply did not include these plants in their garden. With the right plan in place, a tea herb garden does not have to be restricted in this manner. You can feel free to grow whatever plants you want to.

Light is a very big factor in any garden, and you will find a few plants that require more light than others. Always bear this in mind when designing your tea herb garden. If your garden does not provide any shade, you may want to use more pots for your tea herb garden. This allows you to move plants, which need more shade on days where there are no clouds. Those not looking to constantly move their plants should consider creating shade with bushes or wooden overhangs. This will not only add character to your garden, it will provide the shade your plants need to thrive.

Many tea herbs have very pretty flowers. These flowers are a great addition to any garden. A tea herb garden with chamomile, jasmine, bergamot, rosemary, lavender and violets add a nice touch. These plants have the additional benefit of smelling great. The fragrance from the flowers will carry in the wind so you can enjoy their aroma no matter where in the garden you are. With these herbs in your garden, you may even want to install a bench so you can smell them more often.

A great recommendation for your tea herb garden is to include the stevia plant. This is a natural sweetener, which has just recently taken off in the United States. The benefit of the plant is it provides sweetness to your herbal tea without all of the calories. This is a great addition to anyone who is diabetic. Since the sweet taste is not glucose, diabetics are safe to use it. The leaves can be dried and ground in order to use them well into the winter.
